Canine distemper

Symptoms of distemper include fever, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, lethargy and difficulty breathing. Puppies from weaning to one year of age are most susceptible to this disease. The incidence is highest in late summer and early autumn.

The solution is to keep vaccinations up to date, keep the house hygienic and properly isolate new puppies brought home. You can also take your dog for a rabies vaccination 42 days after birth.

Dog microvirus

The symptoms of the disease are depression, lack of appetite, drowsiness and vomiting. It is extremely contagious. The mortality rate is also very high. It is usually found in the non-professional dog breeding market.

The solution is regular vaccination, good hygiene, fasting, and prompt medical attention.

Small Tips

Keeping up to date with vaccinations, making sure the source of purchase or adoption is reliable, regular deworming and good hygiene will protect your dog.
